The Delhi Cabinet on Wednesday (May 4) approved the setting up of a Memorial on Hon’ble former President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s life and belongings at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi.

It has been decided that the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) will be assigned the work of setting-up this memorial on deposit work basis and its further operation.

The Department of Art and Culture will be the nodal department for this prestigious project and Finance Department will provide adequate funds for this purpose.

It may be recalled that Shri. A.P.J. Mohamed Muthu Meeran Lebbal Maraikayar, the elder brother of Hon’ble former President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in his letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Delhi had requested the Government of NCT of Delhi for setting up a “Kalam National Centre for Knowledge Discovery” in New Delhi.

With immense respect for Hon’ble former President Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Delhi Government happily decided to set up a Memorial to display his philosophy and life.

In a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Minister (Tourism, Art, Culture & Languages, Gurdwara Elections & Water) with concerned officials it was decided that the belongings of the Late President, including his books, documents etc., would be brought from Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu to Delhi for display in the Exhibition Hall in INA, Dilli Haat.
