In its pursuit to ensure all round development of school children in the national capital, for the first time Delhi government has introduced Summer Camps for class VI students in its government schools.

Atleast 44,000 Class VI students from more than 551 government schools in Delhi have started their vacations on the high note at these Summer Camps.

This is the first time such camps are being conducted in India at such a scale in government schools. The duration of summer camp will be three weeks from May 11 to May 31.Parents are also invited on Saturdays, and Parents-kids joint activities will be performed on these days.

The Summer Camps have been organised to welcome children from different backgrounds into Class VI from Class V, as studies have shown that this transition is particularly difficult.

The Camps have been designed around three core themes – food, water and waste. The children attending these Camps will be taught about these themes through fun-based activities and integrated learning techniques. It is also envisioned to bridge the learning gap of children with group and peer to peer learning in this summer camp.

Special one day training was organised for about 1500 guest teachers who will be involved in the summer camp. On the first day of the Summer Camp, the children were welcomed with beautifully decorated classrooms. Next, they participated in a poster-making competition on the topic “Hamari Dilli”. The winning poster of this competition will be published by the Delhi government’s tourism department.
