Prior to joining DCPCR as Chairperson, Anurag Kundu has been involved in the work of implementation of Right to Education Act for several years. 

  He has previously served as Member, Delhi Commission For Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) where he headed the education division. He was responsible for monitoring the implementation of Right to Education Act across 5,500 government, municipal and private schools within the state of Delhi, inquiring into specific complaints/violations or taking suo-moto cognisance of the violations of the Right to Education Act and advise the Government of Delhi on all education’s legislations, policies, and budgetary matters. 

  He has been part of several education reforms of the Government of Delhi and authored multiple policy decisions. Some of these reforms include advising Delhi Right to Education Rules in the light of parliamentary amendment with respect to No-Detention policy, implementation of Mission Buniyaad to improve students’ learning levels, EWS/DG provision implementation in private schools for children belonging to disadvantaged groups, safety related standards in schools, and constitution of School Management Committees.  

 He has published a research study detailing the status of implementation of Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act that reserves 25% seats in private schools for children belonging to economically weaker sections and socially disadvantaged groups. He also published a research study to assess the extent and effectiveness of mainstreaming of out of school children in Delhi.

 In 2016, he filed and won Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Delhi High Court for robust implementation of the Section 12(1) (c ) of Right to Education Act in private schools regulated by three Corporations of Delhi and thus benefitting nearly 12,000 children annually and setting precedents for similar litigations in different states.Previously, he completed his two years fellowship with Teach For India prior to joining them as Consultant. Thereafter, he worked with Indus Action for the implementation of Right to Education Act. He is a Computer Engineer by degree and hence leverages technology effectively in his work.
