  • Summer camps in government schools: bigger and better than last year!
  • Summer camps began today in all 1024 Delhi government schools
  • The camps aim to combine learning with fun activities and games, during the summer break

Delhi's government schools had set the bar high last year when it comes to combining fun with learning. After a fantastic first edition of Summer camps in 551 government schools last year, the program has been expanded this year to include all 1024 schools. All across the city, children entering Class 6 enjoyed Day 1 of this year's summer camps. The camp will be held inside the school premises in the first half of all weekdays, until June 3.

Summer camps are part of the government's effort to bridge the learning level deficit of children who come into Delhi government schools from other schools after Class 5, so as to being them at par with the academic standards of Delhi government schools. Children are engaged in games, sports, art, music, dance and other such activities by the school during the summer camps.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, "Summer camps were brought in last year to help children coming in form other schools to cope with the new academic rigour as well as the environment. However, they also fit into our vision of schools as institutions beyond merely places of study. Kuch masti, kuch padhai is the concept behind summer camps. I am happy that all of our schools have taken it upon themselves to make summer camps more successful than they were last year."

Delhi government has reimagined the way government schools are administered and has been making several interventions towards developing all government schools to be better than private schools. The continuation and expansion of the Summer camps program this year is an important step towards offering accessible, affordable and quality education for all.
